No, the 790XT-UD4P does not need a BIOS update to run a C3 out of the box.

It's a great board and I would highly recommend it.

It also does not seem any other boards out right now are in your price-range and offer what the Gigabyte does.

It shouldn't.

The only boards I Know of to have the C3 issue are the MSI boards.
My Gigabyte 790FXT-UD5P did not need the C3 BIOS update to run a C3 CPU.

You will be able to run a C3 out of the box on that board. The MA790XT-UD4P seems to be a solid board and many people would recommend it.

The only thing you may need a bios update for is to take advantage of the new hardware integrated c1e; but you should always flash to the latest bios anyway when using a motherboard.

I would highly recommend the 790XT-UD4P. I have it and am very happy with it. It's a very solid board. Which kind of RAM are you planning on using? Obviously this board is AM3 only, so you will need DDR3 RAM.

Was thinking of either of these cheaper kits.

G.SKILL F3-10666CL9D-4GBNQ PC3-10666 4GB 2X2GB DDR3-1333 CL9-9-9-24 240PIN Dual Channel Memory Kit

Patriot Viper Extreme Performance 4GB DDR3 2X2GB PC3-10666 DDR3-1333 CL 7-7-7-20 Memory Kit

My cpu is ordered only left to get mobo which is set on and one of these kits. There only $100 cad each. I may go with Patriot.

The Patriot's will be your best bet.

Those G.Skill kits will hold you back.
