Yes you will have to, only in some strange case that they boot up....but you should reformat everytime when upgrading hardware other than a video card/pci card, ect.....

You will more than likely have to. You can try a windows repair on the drive but it will likely be unstable. Better to do a fresh install.

you may not have to reformat. you can hook everything up and then put your windows disc in and boot to your CD. then just do a repair on your current windows install. that may do it, may not... but worst case senario you're out about 10 min. and best case cenario you don't have to reformat

Hmmm...what to put here??

No you don't have to reformat! Just do a repair install of windows and you will be fine. Also if you are going from nforce to nforce then you may not even have to reinstall.

Why do you guys like to reformat at the smallest problem? Like soloz2 said, try a repair install first. Don't hit R at the first screen, hit Enter, F8, then R to repair. This works 90% of the time. I haven't reinstalled Windows on this drive since I put XP on here when it came out. I've gone through a handfull of motherboards and processors in that time. And what cdub998 isn't true, a repair will fix the instability that causes BSOD/reboots when you change chipsets. If it boots into Windows you can update your drivers and that will fix any instability that might still be there.
I should put this in my sig or something...

When I changed MOBOs from an EPOX to the one I have now all I did was unistall the motherboard drivers BEFORE the switch. Once I had everything set up I just installed the drivers for the motherboard. It has been weeks now and no problems. However, it's still a good idea to backup everything important when doing a major hardware change.

Every time I have switched mobos and tried a repair it has either not worked or has been very unstable... Just giving advice from experience.
