It is socket AM2 and uses nforce430/gforce6150 chips. The manual states that it has BIOS overclocking options. Does anyone have any idea how well this board will overclock?

I will just have to try and see how it works. The board is already on its way. I will report to you as soon as I get some results, that will be early August.
__________________I am looking forward to see how well this performes with DDR2. I ordered a 1G set with Gail value RAM(GX21GB4300DC) and I'm hoping to overclock this a bit as well. Anyhow, this rig is not for myself. I just want to test how much performance I can get from a budget AM2 based system.

Might as well cancel that order. There is no overclocking with this board just the autooverclocker by asus giving you max 10% OC. You cant even adjust the Vcore voltages. I'm thinking of returning this one because if I bump up my FSB to 201mhz it wont post. Largest POS ever, ASUS is dead to me, I should go back to MSI or DFI

I can now confirm that this board is crap. Stay clear of it if you are in for overclocking.

I've purchased this motherboard for my HTPC. I didn't had the intention of overclocking it, but when I saw that there was actually a couple option into the BIOS, I told myself, whynot?
The BIOS option are quite simple, and there's no Vcore or LDT multiplier settings, which limits the overclocking a lot. Here's my little setup: ASUS M2NPV-VM (motherboard) AMD Athlon64 X2 3800+ EE (65W dual core processor) Fortron Zen 300W (power supply) Kingston KVR800D2N5K2/1G (1GB kit of value ram) I tried overclocking the system using the ASUS AI Overclocking functiona t first, but it couldn't let me boot into Windows even with the smallest increase, which is 3%. I then suspected a BIOS problem. So I went on ASUS website to download the lastest BIOS. At the moment I'm writing this message, the lastest BIOS is 0603. The BIOS that came with my motherboard was 0504. I updated the BIOS using the ASUS EZ-Flash thing included into the BIOS options. Once updated, I did a CMOS reset to be sure everything would work fine. Now here are the settings I've tried and allowed me to get the most out of this board. #1 settings: CPU settings: RAM voltage: Auto CPU multiplier: 9x FSB: 260 RAM settings: RAM speed: DDR800 TCL: 5 TRCD: 5 TRP: 5 TRAS: 15 With theses settings, I was able to get 2 sessions of Prime95 running at the same time, stable for 2h30 minutes before it fails. Theses settings allowed me to achieve 2600MHz in HTT link. Of course this is of course what created an error under prime, stock HTT link is at 2000MHz. CPU frequency was 2.347GHz, which is not bad at all, a 347MHz overclock on a board with no decent overclocking options. #2 settings: CPU settings: RAM voltage: Auto CPU multiplier: 10x FSB: 235 RAM settings: RAM speed: DDR800 TCL: 5 TRCD: 5 TRP: 5 TRAS: 15 With theses settings, the HTT link is at 2350MHz, which is more reasonable. The CPU frequency is 2.35GHz. A 350MHz overclock. At the time of this writing, I am currently running two sessions of Prime95 to stress the CPU and test it's stability. I will post my result later on, or tomorrow, if the stress does not fail. My goal is to achieve 12 hours of stressing. So if you're an ASUS M2NPV-VM owner, you might want to try the BIOS 0603 if you intend to overclock a bit. The above settings are the top ones that allowed me to boot into Windows. Higher FSB than 235 with 10x multiplier or 260 with 9x multiplier failed to even POST. EDIT: FSB: 235 failed after 2 hours and a quarter. Now testing 230. It's been more then 2 hours now and it is still stressing, will keep you posted. EDIT2: FSB: 230, prime stressed during 21 hours without any errors. System is rock solid with a 300MHz overclock at HTT and CPU frequencies. This is the best I could do with a motherboard with such cheap overclocking option. If at least I would have had the Vcore option, I'm sure I could have reach 2.4GHz with an HTT of 2600MHz.

I don't know if it is because I am using a 4850, I got it so far to 240 fsb and cpu prime95 stable at 2941 mhz, I would attach cpu-id screens if some one tells me how! LOL.
My rig: 4850e @ 2941 mhz 2 gig Adata dual channel at 843 mhz 9600gt @ 750 core P.O.S. assorted HDD's |
