Agreed. I am taking a couple software engineering courses right now where we don't touch a single piece of code. It's all project management, planning, and documentation. An RTS, and especially a 3D based engine from scratch is a HUGE task; moreover, when it involves some casual programmers as a spare time project. I would love to participate, but I can't see it getting very far off the ground.
