C++ is what you really want to work towards but try starting with something a little easier, python for example is fast to learn and gives you good grounding for learning programing.

Hell of alot more fun to learn aswel.
VB is rough stay away as was said by someone here "learn the right way"

To be honest, any programming language is fine to learn as they're all capable of doing exactly the same things. The only difference is that some are more capable in certain situations compared to others. For example, you could shift a ton of sand useing a big dump truck and you could also move a ton of sand in a Rolls-Royce. Though the Roles-Royce would be highly impractical and take longer, it's still physically possible to do it.

Whatever languauge you learn, you'll soon find out that all the others are pretty much the same, and you'll pick them up quicker. I recommend Visual Basic to start off with as it's one of the simplest in my opinion. Once you've learnt that you'll be able to pick up other languages easily.

IMO languages like python or perl are not a good first language becuase they tend to make you a lazy programmer.

Python was my 1st, what make a lazy programmer is a lazy person.

I stand with it being a great introduction to programming.
