Default Best compiler for c++?

I'm taking a computer science course right now, and they use codewarrior for the compiler. Are there better compilers out there? Once I finish a few good computer science courses, maybe webmastering too, I'll want to start writing programs for myself. Also, what programming language do calculators such as ti-84's use?

Well, if you decide to check this thread...

Eclipse is a free one which i know lots of people use.

Xcode is supposed to be good.

M$ has some kind of visual studio program for compiling.

Miracle C is a very basic compiler.

I don't know if it's that the calculator "reads" a certain language. Shouldn't it just be that you write the prog on your PC (in w/e language) then transfer it to your calculator? Then it shouldn't matter what language it was written in; it's an executable.
