Default NASM/GDB debugging problem.

Hey everybody. I'm working on an assembly lab, and I need a little help with NASm and/or GDB.

Here's what's up:
I compile using these commands:
Code:
nasm -f elf -g -F stabs lab3.asm
ld -o lab3 lab3.o io.o
and then I run GDB with
Code:
gdb lab3 | tee lab3.txt
That all works out fine. The problem starts when I want to set some breakpoints in GDB. When I try to set a breakpoint, GDB tells me "No symbol table is loaded. User the 'file' command." Using the "file" command get's me "No executable file now./No symbol file now." after which I can't run the program.

I've googled the problem, and all I could find was to compile using format -g... but it's already compiling in that format. So I really have no idea what to do. Thanks for the help.
