Default VB help

Ok, I'm trying to write my first program in VB. I want to make a program that will ease the use of netsend. Basically it will have a place to put the computername, then a message box, and a send button. I don't even know where to start. Can someone kinda walk me through this??? Thanx a bunch

You need to design a form that has four controls on it:
  • a TextBox to accept the computer name
  • a TextBox to accept the message you want to send
  • a CommandButton for "OK"
  • a CommandButton for "Cancel"
Basic things you want to do:
  • You need to have the app Show the form when started.
  • The Cancel button's OnClick event should close the app without doing anything.
  • The OK OnClick event should call a Sub routine that checks for contents in both of the text boxes, calling the MsgBox function with an appropriate error message if one of them is not filled in.
  • If the boxes are both filled in, the OK OnClick event should call a proc to issue the netsend command. (I don't recall which VB command lets you issue command lines statements, but I seem to recall there being one.)
Did you install the sample applications when you installed VB? You can take a Hello World app and turn it into this fairly quickly.

I wrote one of those for my office mates. It had a built-in random insult generator. It proved to be a lot of fun.

Here is a zip of the project. Very basic stuff usses a text file to hold names. Probably very little error trapping.

Heh, as I think about it... is it VB4, VB5, VB6, or VB .NET?
