I am going to buy an E6420 and a Gigabyte p965-ds3 rev 1 from a guy I know. Want to know what it's worth. only have a short time though so please shoot me what you think.

Is the rev 1 O.K.?

$200 seems on the spot.

The Rev 1 has known to fail a lot. So they brought out a newer revisions.

But if your mate has been running it OK then i doubt his was defective in the first place.

I've had both a Rev 1.0 and a Rev 3.3 - my Rev 1 was faulty

Is the DS3 the rev 1.0 or the rev 1.3? If it's the 1.3 it has support for 1333mhz FSB processors...

I've not noticed many differences TBH - the IDE controller is detected in Windows with the Rev 3, and the Rev 3 definitely has more fan ports, as well as a different stock NB heatsink...some of the MOSFETs also look a bit different to me

After reading the review on the boards with the failed tests I wouldn't personally buy one but The cpu probably for $125
