This is a broken 16GB Ipod Touch. I don't have it but someone is offering to trade it with me and I'd like to know what it's worth.
This is all I know: This guy plugs it in his pc; then he unplugs it after some time and it shut off and won't come back on. Main suspect is the battery but that is all I am able to find out so far. Supposedly he mentioned that it worked for a few minutes but I don't know how true that is. I'd like to know that assuming it's NOT the battery but the device is actually dead, what is it worth then?

150$ since it is broken, as i recall, spare batteries for the touch are only 10$ to replace with, if its just the battery itself tho. Try looking into this more, it could be something other than the battery, have you gotten a chance to try it yet? Is this person trading with you a friend or a complete stranger?

The person is an "acquaintance". He told me that when he plugs the cable into the computer it doesn't turn on at all. But he claims that's because the battery needs to hold a charge for it to do that. I don't know how true that is. Say that the actual device is dead. What would it be worth then?

Would be worth around 20$ if it was completely dead. Wait, does the touch ever turn on at all? Your best bet is to demo/test the ipod for a day to find out whats going on, otherwise you could get scammed. How much is he asking?

He is asking $20 for it cause he says it's no use to him.

Hmm, can you ask him to see the touch first? It seems like a reasonable price for a touch. You can always try replacing the battery which you could find on ebay, if it still doesn't turn out to work, its only 20$ heck you could even open up the whole thing and try to fix it yourself. I say go for it

$20 is beyond reasonable if it's actually only the battery but the risk here is that the actually device is dead in which case I am interested in reselling it as is but how much do you think I would be able to get for it?

You sure it isn't Jailbroken, with a tethered jailbreak, because that is easily fixed.

The kid originally got it from someone else also so that's all he knows too. No clue whatsoever is wrong with it besides what I posted above. Would it be possible to resell it as broken for more than $20? Otherwise it's not worth it.

I am sure you can sell it for atleast 50$ on ebay, many people tend to attempt to fix them as they do for broken iphones.
