Default Zalman VF900 and AIW 9800 Pro

Hi all,

Bit of an old technology question. I need to replace the fan on my AIW 9800 Pro with something quieter (it's going into an AGP HTPC, so it really doesn't need the latest and greatest VC). Will the VF900 fit? The Zalman website doesn't say anything either way about the AIW series cards. I've seen a few people say they have had success with the VF700 (even though the Zalman site says the 700 won't fit) so I'm hoping someone here will know about the 900.

Thnx in advance,

Ron

i just installed one on my 6800 ultra and it dropped the temps from 56 idle to around 49°c idle. I oc'd my card to 470/1200 and temps were 63°c load. I have to back down the mem oc i believe cause I froze up after a bit. Temps weren't the problem, but it was artifacting a bit in dod.

Anyways, i'll check the manual for any incompatabilities with the AIW cards. I don't believe so, because i didn't see it in the list on the package of cards it didn't work with.

I recently upgraded my 9800 AIW's cooling I didn't use the VF700 but I did use Kingwing KWVC it's a little cheaper but it is also bigger I think but It does mount on the 9800 AIW.

Here's the link http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835124006

I hope this helps.

The mounting holes should be the same. And the VF900 does support the 9800 series.

Okay, I bought the VF900 and hopefully, this will be of some use to someone else.

The VF900 doesn't fit "properly" on the AIW9800 (or AIW9700 for that matter, they're pretty identical). By that I mean, while there's enough fan and heatsink clearance, if you use the 2 #1 nipple holes, which match the holes on the card, the top left retention arm hits the TV tuner on board and prevents you from mounting. Cutting off that arm will make it work (at the cost of using the cooler for future cards that would use that arm) but I also found by rotating the card slightly left, and using nipple hole #1 on the right, and nipple hole #2 on the top left arm, the cooler just fits. The cooler now sits turned about 45 degrees to the left (as opposed to straight on like it should), but it makes good contact. The only potential problem is that the bottom left arm now hangs below where it should, and could possibly interfere with the motherboard if you've got any capacitors in that area. Works fine on my board though. Hope this is of some use to someone out there. Thanks all for the info.
