ya most cards run 70-90c under load so 60c was no were near death maybe you got a power issue like your psu had a surge and killed the video card.

42C but now my CPU usage is jumping around from 4% up to like 70%. I'll have my dad take a look at it in the morning I need to head to bed.

137C isn't hot for GPU, that's like 40-50C. When people deal with computer temperature, they need to go for Celcius for an easier reading. I got my 6800GT to 118C(for 10-20second) once, by accident, it didn't die.

Id leave your pc off till you can do more checking into it so if you got somthing bad it don't fry other parts.
