Hey all,
__________________I have a Sapphire X1950 512MB card, which as you might know, comes with a crappy cooling solution. I get nigh on 70C under load, which is a lot for this card. Plus its freakin' LOUD, its the only fan in my case that causes loads of noise. What is a recommended, and preferably, silent cooler to use for these cards? Is it easy to replace a GPU cooler? Never done it before

Why is it smoking?

The first thing I'd do is try to find someone selling an IceQ3 off a HIS model. I had one and it was unbelievably effective as well as almost silent. You may get lucky and find someone with a dead card, or possibly some who decided to water cool it.

I highly recommend a Zalman VF900
Keeps my X1900GT at 30C idle and around 40C under load

Well, just ordered the Zalman VF900
__________________![]() Is it easy to fit? I really don't want to damage this card in any way! I also have plenty of Arctic Silver or Ceramique heat paste to use if I need to.

Yes its rather easy, take off the stock HS, usually unscrews, then screw the VF900 to the card using the backplate, plastic washers, springs and the screws. Then stick the small RAMsinks to the ram and you should be good to go.

Just realised the X1950s require an additional voltage regulator heatsink too, which does not come with the Zalman. I guess I could "blag" a heatsink from somewhere else. I think I have a dead 9700PRO lying around with additional heatsinks on it.... hmmm

I was using a Zerotherm GX810 on both of mine before I went to water cooling and they did a great job. The GX815 gamer would be a better chioce, but they had a blue LED light and everything in my case has red lights so I went with the 810.

Yeah I will see what I can do!
__________________Its all nice and snug in the case now, but I guess for this wonderful forum I can make some exceptions ![]() It only took about 20 mins to fit on nicely. I'm running about 40C on idle and no more than 58C on full load (i.e. Crysis). I mainly got this cooler as my PC sounded like a jet engine. It is soo quiet now. The only things I can hear now is my PSU and sometimes the CPU HSF on load.
