Thermalright HR-03 is still the best (and largest) GPU cooler. You don't have to worry about cooling the RAM as it has it's own heatsink.
The HR-03 will fit, I don't know if the HR-03 Plus will or not.

I know for a fact the hr-03 plus will NOT fit the HD3870. I made the mistake of buying one and realized that holes don;t fit
now I have to bring it back and pray that they let me exchange it for a regular HR-03. If not I'll have to sell it on ebay for like 40$ and recuperate some of the cost *sigh*.

My 3870's are cooled with Zalman VF-1000, good cooling. (idle 33°C - load 51°C)

I've been looking for a better cooler since I bought my VistionTek 3870, since it seems like people really dislike the stock cooling. However, I'm confused by the temps, the fan, and the card. I'll explain.
I took the advice of a few other posts and downloaded RivaTuner and ATI Tool. I use Catalyst to keep an eye on temps. I use RivaTuner to keep the 3870's stock fan @ 69% when idle and @ 100% when gaming. Since it's winter, of course it's going to be colder in my house than in the summer (it was -14F with the wind chill this morning). Right before I play a game, I set the ATI's fan (using RivaTuner) to 100%, and then turn the speakers up. Last night when I played the Crysis demo (everything on medium, I think), my house was 66F. I stopped Crysis, went back to Windows as fast as I could, and the temp on Catalyst said 42C. I thought that was pretty acceptable. I don't think cooling is going to be a big issue in the winter; however, I think it will be a much bigger deal when summer comes. I have to get a better/bigger PSU before I can get rid of my 90W PSU inside the case. After I get the PSU (hopefully April) I can start looking for aftermarket cooling - either the Zalman VF-1000 or the Thermalright HR-03. I'd rather not spend the money for an aftermarket cooler, or void the warranty for that matter, but, judging by these posts, the stock cooling may not be enough in the summer. Is this aftermarket cooling a necessity or a luxury?

What is the name of this site? Heat shortens the life of electronics. Reducing heat helps longevity. It also allows for overclocking with stability. Running stock and your decent looking temps can be perfectly acceptable. If you want more, aftermarket coolers do it better and safer. I would say this makes aftermarket items a luxury that is necessary, IF you overclock.

Dang that is awesome. I've actually noticed that my GPU gets hot as well. At idle it sits about 49-56c and under load (Overclocked using the CCC to 840) it screams up to about 76-78c. I guess I should invest some money into a better cooler. I only have one HD 3870 right now, but I intend on getting one more. What do you guys think is an acceptable Load temp?
