I finally received my second Visiontek HD 3870 today, fresh off the DHL truck, and much to my surprise, there is a cooler on it I have not seen before, nor can I find online!
Any thoughts?! (pardon the pictures, taken with my phonez) (It sure looks like a sweet cooler!) ![]()

Looks like they're using the 2900XT coolers now. Let us know if there's a temperature difference. Average full load first release 3870 is 90C and 50C on idle.

The heatpipes will be a VERY welcome improvement over the standard cooler. But, TBH I still think they could have gone single slot.....

Are you sure thats the new stock cooler? Or just a custom one by VisionTek.

I see you ordered from Dell. Seems like it was a good idea.

Mine looks just like it since it's the same one. lol
I'm getting impatient on seeing how it will run and will just put it in with the stock cooler, bypassing the GPU in the cooling loop. I just hope I can keep from making a mess when I try to remove the GTS lines and reconnecting the loop. I wouldn't bother but bruping the system is a PITA and takes forever. If it runs cool enough I may just overlook getting a good waterblock for it and go with only a new pump and maybe Apogee GT for the rest of the system.

How did you know it was Dell?!
Averaging 20 degC cooler than the old stock 3870 cooler (both at idle and load). Pythagoras pointed out something interesting - the heatpipe cooler is shown on some 3850 cards (GEcube), but still no official word or pictures of 3870's carrying them.
