has anyone painted an ATI stock cooler to like jet black or what not?

I dont thinks it recommended that you that, since the heat from the cooler will cause the paint to melt or chip off.

i assume you're talking about the plastic covering over the heatsink? i don't think that would cause a problem. just make sure you sand it and prime it so the paint sticks on well and doesn't flake or peel.

You can get flame retardant paint, they use it on cars. I don't think it will hold up forever though.

should be perfect! i know that stuff is meant to bond with plastic, but still thoroughly clean the cover, and give it a rough sanding (around 400 grit).

what about 1000 since i dont want the finish to look too abrasive ( or whatever that word that means the sanded swirls).

Sounds good. Just make sure you are prepared to lose warranty though.
