Default can an ati core be lapped?

i have never removed my stock cooler to look at it, but i have a vf700-cu in the mail and a lapping kit and i am wondering if that would work.

Not entirely true. I've seen it done before.
It was an entire guide on prepping the card, then the lapping sequence. Just make sure that EVERYTHING other then the Core is taped off somehow, or your screwed, Thats all I can remember from that guide, lol.
I'll google around for some links to it.

there is absoultly no need what so ever to lap the ati core or vf700-cu cause they already have the best contact that ive ever seen on a vga cooler laping it wil probibly make it worse

If you are luckey the laping will reduce it by 1C, that is, if you are really luckey. I wouldnt gamble on the life of my card for that 10% chance of 1C drop.
