Is there a good way of setting a 3850's fan speed?
For some reason my 3850 likes to have its fan on 16%. When it's at load it might decide to go up to 20% (90'C) but that's about it. I can set it to 60% fixed in RivaTuner 2.06 which takes it down to 42'C idle and 67'C load (oc) with no audible difference. Past 60% I can start to hear it.
Is there a better way to set this fan speed so that is doesn't try and set itself to ridiculously low speeds in the first place? I find RivaTuner a bit of a PITA. Every time I open it, it thinks I am at default clocks and whines about drivers and it adds itself to startup but needs elevated permissions so I get blocked startup warnings each boot (I have it as a scheduled task too but each time it opens, it adds itself to startup in the registry again)
Annoyingly, it's fan seems to use some tiny 4pin connector that I have never seen before so I can't hook it up to any of my fan controllers, which is what I normally do with graphics cards. I just got this card because I got bored waiting for the GT200 and Vista SP1 killed my 7900s (sent them off to my brother now) so I'd rather not get an aftermarket cooler for (hopefully) just a few months.
