Hey fellas,
I have an ATI Radeon 9700Pro 128MB video card in my backup Athlon XP rig. The fan is becoming increasingly louder. I think the fan bearings are going out. (I've heard this can be a problem with older 9700 series cards.) I'd like to replace the Heatsink/Fan with something else. It's hard finding compatible aftermarket HSF's for these cards since they're so old. Does anyone know of an aftermarket HSF I could get, with a possible link? Doesn't have to be great, just something that'll work. Thanks.

I have thought about buying the AC silencer a few times for my 9800pro but decided that I didn't need to spend the money. I have no experience or heard anything about it, but it looks decent for the price. I have also thought about the accelero S2, but thats twice the price and that can go towards my main rig.

![]() How does this little Vantec fan look? Do you think it would cool the 9700Pro? It's kind of small, not much for a heatsink. Or I could go for this Zalman, but I really didn't want to spend $23 for cooling on the card considering it's probably not worth much more than that, lol.

I dunno, it looks like a POS, but almost all of them do that are under $10. The good thing is that the hsf on the card is probably about the same quality as any of those. I would probably try one of them, or if you plan on keeping the back up rig for a while just drop the extra $10 on the zalman or any of the better models.
__________________I know where your coming from, it seems like a waste to spend the money on an old card like that and thats the reason why I didn't buy one. I was going to one day, then I decided that I needed a new computer. I ended up fixing the loud noise problem my 9800 was making by adding a big fan in the front of the case that masks the noise coming from the gpu.
