Hi, now i know the x800gt is an old graphics card, and im only using it whilst saving up for ma 9600GT or 8800GT (undecided...any suggestions?) Bt i think the fan on it is broke, well...

Couple of days ago my pc decided it wouldnt want to start, when it did it was a brief second before it went off again. I automatically assumed the psu (running a cr*ppy stock thing) was bust. so i went out and bought a new one...the same still happened. However sumtimes it switches on and stays on, so i did sum fiddling and yeah the gfx card seems to be the problem, the fan doesnt spin at all, and i dont want to leave it on to long incase the fan is meant to spin and so i fry the chip.

Any suggestions? is the fan only meant to spin when core temp reaches certain point? or is the fan bust ?

Use it and check temps and see if fans comes on

That and point an additional fan at it to help cool it better....for the time being.

Jus plugged it back up, no joy. the screen flashes then goes into standbye mode

I hav an old mobo with built in gfx ill hav to put that in n c wot happens?

Any ova ideas?

I just threw away a stock x850xt cooler about a week ago, or you could've had it for shipping. If you can find one (probably next to impossible now), look for an Arctic Cooling Silencer for that card if you're going to keep it. Made my x850 in my family rig absolutely quiet.

yeah, well a mobo with a onboard graphics card. Fitted that and all seems to be working . Hmmm now vista seems to not want to work (restarts) but xp works fine (dualboot.) Nows i just have to save for a new graphics card. But at least i hav a workin desktop now!
