ATI HIS 1650 GT AGP REAR Heatsink
I bought this card at NewEgg, It is a good upgrade from my MSI 6600GT. It ran rather hot till I added a case fan, mem sinks and artic silver 5 to the GPU. Now it idles at 44C down from 57C for the GPU. Env temps are at 50C down from 62C at idle.
My questions are what is the chip on the backside of the card? It runs way hot (env temp?) and has a square piece of pink silicon covering it. Whats the best way to mount a heatsink on this chip? I have a milling machine and can mill heatsinks to fit, Artic silver 5 and Alumina epoxy, but perfer to make the sink removeable.

That pink thing looks like a thermal pad
Are you sure it's silicon? Is it hard?

Soft silicon in 2 layers in white and pink. White layer is softer than the pink layer.

i think it's the chip that converts the pci-e signals that the GPU usually uses to AGP signals. you shouldn't need to cool it i don't think.
