Default x1900xtx volt.reg. overheating?

i have a x1900xtx and as soon as the voltage regulator temp exceeds approx.75c i start to see artifacts and after 80c its really bad, dont know that u would call them artifacts they are randomly appearing dots and lines running across the screen generally from weapon(battlefield-bioshock) to the edge of the screen and moving with the weapon, is the voltage regulator under the red heatsink at the back of the card which runs from the top all the way to the bottom of the card? and is there anything to do about the overheating? thanks

i had thought about that was just wondering if this was common or just a sign of an aging card, got a 9600gt on the way but would like to keep this for either a second rig or else a backup card

I surrounded the VRM heatsink in a yellow rectangle for you, I'd try to find an 80mm fan or something similar to help cool it.

last post to this thread, mounted fan in front of heatsink dropped gaming temps on volt reg from 80 to 57 major decrease, odd is the fact that my harddrive fans are blowing that direction and arent that far away amazing what 3inches will make on fan mounting locations
