Default HR-03 compatability with 2x 4870's?

I thought I read here on the forums that the HR-03 more or less makes crossfire of two 4870's impossible if using a fan. Is this true? If so what cooler/fans would be suitable for a crossfire set up?

Honestly, you'd be better off with a pair of DuOrbs.

i second the duorbs.
from the egg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835106112

that is true, if you use the hr-03 on crossfire'd 4870's the only way to run them is passsively. (without a fan)

I just read here and noticed on subsequent forums the duorb most probably can't handle the 4870's. Seems like problems with most coolers as far as the 4870's go. anyone?

The HR-03GT's are much better coolers than the Duorbs, but they are quite a bit larger.

They should fit assuming there is clearance between your motherboard, I'd put both heatsinks in the "above card" position.

i think they could fit, but the top gpu would need the cooler mounted on the top side and the bottom gpu would need the cooler mounted on the underside.

If I were going for a 4870 now I would go with the GV1000:

Since the Rampage formula is similar to Maximus Formula you got a couple of options.

Wait for the new Thermalright t-Rad2 and use them together with 1 120mm fan or two 92mm fan on each cooler.

Or you can use two HR-03GT installed in the wraparound example. It should be enough space from the cooler to your TRUE so it can fit a 120mm fan aswell. Since the Rampage got two slots above the top vga slot.

I will paste a picture showing the HR-03GT using a fan together with True and two slot spacing. (the motherboard isnt a Rampage but a P5K but the measurements are the same)

Sry for my bad english but I think youll get the point.
