the main problem with 4850s is that the stock cooler is crap. if you dont overclock it then it should be fine. if ur still worried about the temps, raise the fan speed or get an aftermarket cooler.

I'm running both my 4850's at 60% fan speeds and they have yet to break 58 degrees on load. I'm using stock coolers but plan to change to duorbs. I wasn't actually using a case when I tested these temps and had a fan below the card.

I have both on my sapphire 4850 1 gig, The VF1000 idle around 34 and load 44ish, even @ 700 mhz and 1200 memory settings . And that's not even @ 100% fan speed, probably half way on load.

Maybe I'll look into other coolers but I have 1 duorb already so I'd prefer to have matching coolers on my cards. I'm picky about things looking right.

only if u bought a custom designed 4850 instead of reference 4850 i had to use 60% to not heat too much as well,

I am wondering if the OP has seen his temps drop any as the AS5 he applied settled in.

How do you get to these temperatures?
which HD4850 you've got? I Got the HD4850 with the Zalman Fan: - Powerful and 2 heat pipes - New copper and pure aluminum design http://www.xxlimg.com/images/f1ggmvid3io8zn4bgoy4.jpg My GPU temperature at idle: 37C And while stability test (5 minutes) it was 60C at MAx.

i'm running two in CF with my fans at 40%. Alone they average around 38C idle and maybe 60C load. I also have a PCI cooler which helps out.
If money is a problem, ask for the cooler for the holiday. (If you celebrate)

Take it apart and clean out the dust built up inside. I had the same issue as far the overheating goes. I took the plastic off and the dust was scary. After the cards dropped 12c at idle, never checked the load temps.
