![]() I'll do that then if it doesn't come with a thermal pad, but how do I know if it has a thermal pad or not

MX2 should be fine... although Gir has quite a bit of experience backing him, I would just like to ask why he feels that pads are a better solution than MX2 as MX2 has a much higher thermal conductivity? Not attempting to be sarcastic, asking a serious question with hope I might learn something I am overlooking...
__________________A pad will be a large.. well.. pad stuck to the bottom (contact surface) of the heatsink. It will have a pull-off plastic cover to protect the pad from getting foreign particles in it. If its bare metal, and an adhesive pad isnt included with the packaging, then you got shafted on a pad.

The thermal pads are usually reddish brown/purple and pretty thin. They'll look similar to mine here. Quote:

Sometimes they dont have pads or tim, they stress to you to clean off your old pads residue and peel the clear backing off the vrm heatsinks and just apply them as is.
This explains that: http://www.thermalright.com/new_a_pa...r_hr03r600.htm This page hear explains what i think is your model and is as is. SO i wouldnt use any pads or interface material. Just clean off the chips and peel the backing off the heatsinks and just apply with slight pressure.

That's what the thermal pads should look like if they include them. No problemo
