Default 4850 cooler isnt what it seems

So I recently got a 4850 and decided to apply new thermal paste. After I wiped the the old stuff off I noticed some orange on the paper towel, curious I tried it on other spots of the HS and more and more came off then I decided to soak it in alcohol and here is the aftermath:

Yeah I know my warranty is gone now but it did drop my temps by 6c after removing that copper "paint" blanket. So is ATI cheaping out on us making us think the entire HS is all copper?

It's been known for awhile that ATI doesn't use actual copper on some of their coolers.

Yeah the fact that aftermarket drooped my temps by 40C under load is kind of shocking.

It's very soft to cut through.

I don't think an all copper heatsink would even help that much. You just have too much heat in such a tight area.
