I have a MSI Radeon 9800pro 128Mb R350 (9800pro TD-128). I want to OC it to R9800XTspeed 412/375. Is it safe to OC it with my existing cooler to XT speed 415/375 without any heating problem? I already have a big cooler fan on the 3dcard. Isnt it enough for overclocking 9800pro into xt?
I attached the photo of my card with the default fan.

Are you sure its the R350? Most MSI R9800PRO's have R360 cores and are easily flashable to XT.
As for temp's, I'm pretty sure the GPU will be able to do XT speeds with OK (NOT too great temps, but good enough) temps, But I Don't know about the RAM. I'd advise you grab a better cooler and some RAM sinks before flashing.. You should just grab ATI-tool (www.guru3d.com < downloads section) and see what the max mem and core speeds it can hit. Then you'll know for sure if its capable. ![]()

it's safe yes, download ati tool 0.24 and set it to that or set it to find max mem or core, or just set it at the speeds and then scan for artifacts, if it picks up one, then lower your core and memory just slightly, Good Luck.

(But wether or not it will run at those speeds is for you to try and find out. We can't tell you that.)Btw shawn, the msi/medion 9800 pro isn't modable to a xt, it's modable to a 9800 xxl. ![]() And yes, that card does usaly come with a r360 and the only way to tell is to look at the core it's self. (You can't tell through software.) Last edited by SPHERE : 08-19-05 at 07:12 AM. |

Let it run for like a good 4 hours if you got the time, if not...run it for 1 hour, it's safe btw.

![]() Btw only oc one at a time (core or mem), never both. (Untill you are done finding the max oc for both. [Then apply both of them. ]) |

I change the core/mem clock in the ATI tool 0.24 and set them to 412/350 and make a new profile for that. I scan for artifacts for 1 hour and I have got no error.
__________________But these core/mem changes are not shown in ATI catalyst 5.7 softawre. It shows my old ones 378/338. Whenever I restart my pc the ATI tool desplay the default core/mem and i have to set them again. I cannot save these settings to default profile in the ATI tool. Plz help how can i save these settings to my card forever and these new settings should be shown by the Catalyst software?

To program ATITool to load a specific Profile at start up, click Settings, go to top pull down list and click Startup, check "Every time ATITool...", load any setting you have saved. Hope it helps. I know some are tired of me saying this but, just put a cheapie system fan blowing out the back directly under your card. They help with the heat extremely well.
