would it work better blowing in from the front you think? Iv never used that one. Maybe have the fan mounted facing the back of the case, blowing in from the front over that heatsink.

On second though, maybe I'll just get the Zalman VF900 and heatsinks...

just dont skimp out. get some decent ones in case you want to overclock a tad later. Usually gpu heatsinks arent that loud anyways. at least the ones i got before weren't.

It's just a bit hard to find one that fully compatible with the 4850.

iirc vf900 is the cooler on sapphire's toxic edition, and its not good for cooling 4850's at oc'ed speeds at all, gets saturated pretty quickly.
and the memio temps are not memory temps but originate from the gpu die itself.

Can I Hijack this topic for a bit?
I've recently purchased a Sapphire Hd4850 512mb which came with the stock dual slot cooler http://www.elitebastards.com/hanners...r/4850-new.jpg But I also had a vf900 lying around doing nothing so I thought I might as well slap that one onto my brand new 4850. I removed the old cooler and cleaned both the vf900 and the 4850 gpu to a shine using articlean (Nothing like seeing your own reflection in your Gpu) I put a dash of AS 5 on the gpu, put on the heatsink and flipped the card around to secure it from the back. I mounted my Vf900 in the same orientation as it's mounted on Sapphire's Toxic 4850, and put some standard zalman Vram heatsinks on all the memory chips. The vf900 now nicely covers the Vram lining the top of the card, but it only covers two of the 4 ram chips on the right side of the gpu, which I've tried to compensate for with some slightly larger Vram heatsinks. Now I want your opinion on the temps I've been getting. At idle the Gpu core coasts along at 32-34 c and the Memory at 40c. Under load the Gpu reaches 65c and the memory tops out between 70-80c. Do these temps look right? I find the memory temps a little too high for my liking but I have no idea what I can do to bring it down further. As for airflow in my case, I have a 120mm in the back, 80mm 1300 rpm in front and 80mm 1000 rpm sharkoon in the side (turning the side fan up to 2000rpm knocks maybe one or two degrees C off from my graphics card temps and produces a lot more noise.) I welcome your opinions.

so that heatsink covers some of the ram?

Well not direct contact, but it should get a good amount of airflow from the fan like this since I have it set to 100%

Gpu-Z will tell you
And when i had my mem uncovered completely with nothing on them, they were in the 40's all the time, 50's under load.
