My 4850's MEM temps are topping out at around 96c, today I took off the stock cooler and applied AS5 to the GPU core but I did not fiddle around with the memory or thermal pads.

My mem NEVER got that high, even with no heatsink on them, You've got something wrong there.

hmm, i dont know what it is, you try stock speeds and its still that high? I had a rev 2 asus 4850 with only a gpu cooler, nothing on the ram at all and they ran in the 40's.

Well with stock cooler my memory temps were as high as 100C but with no cooler at all they top out at 70C and with ram sticks they are at 65C @ 1200Mhz. The Heat from the GPU heats the ram more then it cools them.

My non reference card doesn't even put ANYTHING on the memory chips, they're completely bare and my mem chips load at about 45 c! Albeit I can't overclock them any higher then 1025 mhz.

Should I remove the thermal pads from the stock heatsink?

EDIT, maybe you should try and find some non stock heatsinks for the gpu. Iv got 1 from my asus rev 2 that kept the gpu around 40C that i dont need anymore since i went water.

I am going to replace the stock cooler soon but meanwhile anything I can do to get my temps on the MEM down? GPU core temps are fine.
