Allright, thermal paste applied, an amount about as big as a fingernail, and the fan is almost mounted. Is the amount ok?

I'm not sure what part of the fingernail you mean, I always go with the "grain of rice" thing. You basically want enough, so when the heatsink is mounted, the pressure flattens the paste over the GPU, but not too much to overflow off the sides

When I put thermal paste on the GPU I have it spread across the whole die and make it as thin as possible.

well, imagine about twice as big as your usual faucet-leak droplet.
|EDIT| Allright, I'm done. Its securely fastened on the card and all the heatsinks are sticked on the RAM. Thanks for everything guys.

It certainly kicks the ass of the crappy stock cooling that comes on all ATI cards. My 3870X2 idles at 70*C (the one furtherest from the fan). The temperature in the room is about 34*C at the moment mind you...

To be honest with you I don't know if the DuOrb can handle 4870.
__________________The 4870 stock coolers blows hot air out of the case, while Duorb moves the air out of the HSF and that's it. I know for a fact that Zalman VF1000 tends to have higher temp than stock cooler (at any load), I thought the ZF1000 > DuOrb, so just giving you a heads up if you got high temps.

Like some people sad its not the best for your card. You should have looks with something which handles more load easily like my cooler.

I think the Accelero is marginal on 4870, not too sure. The only after market cooler will get you nice temps is the Thermalright HR-03. Not sure if it needs to be lapped though.

Yes, the duorb doesn't handle the 4870 well.
