I've been looking for a $15-25 cooler for my 4850; it gets pretty hot but I'm not *that* worried about it....I've been checking out aftermarket stuff but they are all in the $40+ range, that I can see.
__________________Is there anything better than stock for less than $30? If I was going to spend $50 I'd be getting something else. My xigmatek CPU cooler was only $24, what gives?

I know it's over your budget here. Especially after shipping. However, if you could find one of these used I would recommend it vigorously. For the price range I think it's one of the better GFX air-cooling solutions available.

Also, if you are only running your GFX fan at 65% then try out RivaTuner to set it to run fixed at 100%. http://www.overclock.net/downloads/3...rivatuner.html I may just be telling you something you already know.. I just saw in your sig rig you're only running at 65. One thing about that aftermarket cooler however is that I'm not sure you can up the fan speed on it.

Stating the obvious here but have you checked for dust restricting air flow? I have heard that removing the red plastic shield can help temps. And with it removed you might be able to screw a second fan onto the heatsink...

There you go. Inexpensive yet an amazing cooler for the price.

Thanks for all the replies.

As much as I hate The Hills, I can't live with a cranky woman, so that isn't going to work. I have kept my card clean, I blow it out with compressed air, there isn't much dust on it. I will try removing the red plastic and see if that helps. Remember, I'm not actually having any problems I just want to have this card for a long time. I have good case airflow, everything else is nice and cool in there, it's really just the card that gets super hot. I'm gonna check that gfxchilla out, the price is right and it certainly looks more effective than my reference cooler. I think that will max out the space available in my case, but that's okay.

I'm planning on ordering the gfxchilla after holiday break is over. I won't be around for the next couple weeks so I don't want to order the unit and have it get stolen off my porch or stuck at the post office. when I get back I'm putting an order in and I'll update this thread with whatever happens.
