Default My X800 Cooling Duct

I got angry at the frame drop I was getting in COD4 and CS:S today, I was running without my GPU OC, because lately the card has been overheating. (Old thermal paste I say) so I headed into the basement with the video card and set to work. I have a lot of thin box board my dad uses for when he's making car parts outta sheet metal and I thought it would be perfect for the job at hand. I whipped out the masking tape (yes masking tape) and I made a nice little duct to pull air in from behind the case and to the fan on the GPU heatsink. I thought that it might be too much for the fan on the heatsink to handle so I added another fan at the front of the duct.

The verdict... It worked. Temps dropped about 3-7 Celsius with load and OC. It also took a lot longer for the heat to climb to 55 - 65.

I know the X800 is getting old but I gotta say. I think it worked well, what do you guys think?

I made one of those once. Actually two. One for my RAM + CPU that actually made a vacuum and one for my gfx card back in the day when I had no money. It actually dropped my CPU 15 degrees on load and my GPU about 5.

I was planning on something like that. I have all the dimensions and stuff from when I made it so I might use some scrap metal and actually make the duct of sheet metal.

Hmmmm.. Making something like this for my Freezer 7 Pro would be quite simple... Thanks for the idea!

Any other opinions on this?

Kinda hard to get noticed in the ATi sub-forum.
