I would still consider an RMA to ASUS. Just deny all knowledge of everything - worth a try.

BTW its totally retarded that ASUS use glue....I will never buy an ASUS card after knowing that.

Do they glue all their heat sinks? That would really deter me from buying any of their cards not too.

Hi I already wrote to them yesterday, let's see. Given I am not the first one whose fan went awol after 3 months they should replace it. In fact they sold something that was extremly weak and did their best to prevent installing an aftermarket product using gluey cement.

RMA is no good as ASUS sends cards that then fail again ...

One guy did a test and its actually not the fan that is faulty but what's on the card.

Have to pay one way shipping for something that is not my fault. What kind of customer service is that from Asus? Either give us a card that works, or our money back.

I saw the voltage rating of the fan on the card, and connected a battery set with the same rating. The fan worked. This concluded that the flaw is on the card, not the fan.

I had a chat session with an Asus technician, and he told me that the RMA card was a refurbished one. Hey, I didn't pay for a refurbished.

I can personally verify that claim. In fact, I am so pissed off about it that I searched the net and found this forum just to alert others to what Asus does.

Basically, the Glaciator is fast becoming the IBM "Deathstar" of video card coolers and Asus knows it. I own the 4850 model with the same Glaciator cooler and the fan failed after 2 months, causing the card to radically overheat and crash my system. RMA to Asus, got the card back 9 days later and the "repaired" Glaciator fan makes the same exact noise when it reaches the same exact temperature (~80C) and crashes my system in same exact way.

Lesson - Asus sent me back the same card and did not repair it. I doubt they even tested it. That is sleazy and unethical. This isn't a $20 dinner with a fly in my soup that I can write-off; it's a $200 investment that should work for years, yet it repeatedly fails. If the retailer can't help me (newegg, and they usually rock), then I will be forced to file a complaint with my credit card company and the BBB.

Loved Asus for years, but never again. Fool me once...

Default My HD 4870

Its a very decent card for its price definately, only problem is having to replace the standard heatsink, my fan stopped working after about 4 months. I would recommend buying two of these cards with two extra heatsinks ( not sure which is the best heatsink to buy yet?) and crossfire them.

It did have that hard crap on it but I didn't need to force the HS off, I think it's just a real crappy TIM.
