Default Asus HD 4870 dead GPU Cooler after 3 months

Hi I have this card

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_J3_liDBfbv...h_4870_d52.jpg

and the stock Cooler just died after 3 months without any Overclocking attempts.. etc.

Regarding a new GPU cooler, how do I make sure the fiiting, 4 screws, does fit

I read obviously some other threads about ATO coolers, but do they all have the same fitting even if it is from ASUS?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I never replaced a GPU cooler.

a couple I suggest to replace that one: Thermaltake DuOrb and an Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 Rev. 2 would work well for that and allow you to overclock the card more than the stock cooler would allow.

You could return the card for a RMA replacement.

I recommend the Accelero S1 - Will fit a HD4870 perfectly and is cheap and performs well.

Hi bought the Accelero cooler, but when I loosen the screws on the original fan the heatsink seems to be glued on. I kinda don't want to pull it too hard. Additionally there is a passive heatsink on the memory from Asus, which will likely have the same problems. There are passive replacement cooling things in the package, but I don't know if they will work.

Is this normal that the heatsink is actually glued on?

more and better pics of that card

OOps just found out I am not the only one that has the dying fan problem after 3 months.

Pile of junk for £200, wrote to Asus now.

Its not glued on, just the sticky RAM pads. Just wiggle the heatsink a bit and it will come off. Make sure you have removed every screw as well. If the stock ram spreader doesn't interfere with the accelero then it should be fine to leave it.

This DOES fit? I'm just asking b/c on newegg it doesn't show that it supports it. Also, what's the difference between the Accelero S1 Rev 2 and the S2? The S1 or S2 is completelly passive? And doesn't need a fan for it? I mean, I know it needs good case circulation, but it does fine as just a passive heatsink?

The Accelero S1 does fit. It doesn't officially support HD4xxx series cards but it will fit. The S2 is pretty useless for most modern cards. As for the rev 1 vs rev2 its purely a matter of VRM sinks. The rev 1 doesn't come with suitable VRM sinks but the rev 2 does. I have a rev 1 and I just bought a couple of extra ramsinks for the VRMs.
