i just got myself a tube of the new ic diamond 7 thermal paste which is suppose to be the best at the moment. i want to put it on my 4870x2 and i'm wondering where i should use it. i know i should put it on the 2 cores but what about the crossfire chip? and memory pads as well? and would i see much of an decrease in temperature?

Do not use it on the thermal tape as that will NOT improve temps.
You can SOMETIMES remove the thermal tape and use TIM depending on your cooler. This is normally not recommended. I would just use it on the GPU and that's it.

Thermal paste = microscopic gap filler
Thermal pads = non-microscopic gap filler (if you can slip a piece of paper between it, use a pad) They each are suited to perform different tasks.

I'm not exactly sure as I haven't taken it apart yet. If there isn't paste on it then I won't put it in there. I'll let you guys know how my temps are once I do it today.
