Anybody? I don't want to play any games tonight if that's too high.

those look normal, the 4800 series runs extremely hot. the fan will speed up by itself if it gets too hot, although if you don't have good circulation in your case, just take off the side of your case and you should be able to play all night.

Yes they are fine. GPUs run hotter then cpus.

thanks guys. I was running a DuOrb on my card and it was running way too hot. Kept shutting down the entire system. So I put back on the stock cooler and it's way better than the duorb.

That sounds very strange to me. Did you ensure a proper thermal contact? When I was first instaling my Ac S1R2s the temperatures were way too high, and it turned out it was because the base wasn't pressed against the GPU properly. Take a close look, try bending the retention braket a little?

Yeah those temps are fine.

Holy thread resurrection!
__________________Since posting this, I have sold my 4850's and both DuOrbs, and I'm using stock cooling on the 4870. It's been documented that DuOrbs and 4870's don't work well together. The DuOrb on my 4870 was doing the best it could, but couldn't dissipate the heat well enough to keep up with the GPU. When I did attempt to replace the duorb with the stock cooler after it overheated and shut the computer down, I couldn't even touch the fins they were so hot. It left burns on my fingers if that says anything.

![]() Yeah, the 4870 makes a lot of heat... and it burned your fingers to touch? Hope you were alright afterwards, that must have hurt. I guess those DuOrbs just aren't beefy enough to cool a 4870... although admittedly the stock cooler in the 4870 isn't that impressive, I saw after removing them from my own 4870s. Although I'm findings Accelero S1R2s are doing a good job.

What do you get at load? Run Furmark or something like that.
