Default 4850 Insane Temps - Need Cooler (Updated)

Well, apparently after disassembling my 4850's stock reference cooler and applying AS5 my temps when up. I've already tried multiple times and I cannot see what I am doing wrong! Anyways, after the most recent reapplication my temps went even higher!

I need a good cooler replacement for my card, I need something that's compatible with the 4850 and that brings compatible memory and VRM heatsinks. I plan on ordering this either today or tomorrow as I can't play L4D without the fan automatically revving up to 100%.

If possible, please link me to the cooler your talking about if it's not on newegg so I can find it from a reputable seller.

Thanks!

P.S. The cheaper the better!!!

sounds like when you dissembled it and put it back together, its its on right and not making contact... or good contact. You SURE you reinstalled all screws and remembered to put AS5 on the actual GPU itself...

EDIT: But, if you insist on a Aftermarket cooler, go with the the DuOrb's...

Get a Thermaltake DuOrb. Compatible and comes with RAMsinks. Those temps look crazy high though. Does the card physically feel hot? If not, it could be faulty temp sensors, though it would be odd if all 3 sensors were bad.

The Arctic Accelero S1 Rev. 2 is great, you should also buy the turbo fan that is made for it (it doesnt come with a fan). But it is relativly cheap for the cooling it offers.

when you removed the cooler, did you try removing the plastic case?

when i removed the plastic case on mine there was dust in the heatsink blocking the airflow. i blew out the dust, removed the plastic cover, and now my temps dont go past 60C with 55% fanspeed

Yep, I'm positive I got every screw in and the heatsink on correctly, I applied a half rice grain sized ammount of AS5 on the GPU core and spread it with a plastic bag around my finger.

Could it possibly be dirty memory thermal pads? Because they are a bit dirty from me removing them and reapplying them manually. However, that would not explain the high GPU core temps...

Edit: Well, I really don't want to modify my card since it's a Visiontek and has lifetime warranty...

Alright, I've taken the GPU apart again including removing the plastic part off the reference cooler (was being held by screws). Should I leave the plastic part off in hopes of allowing heat to escape the heatsink better? The exhaust for the fan was clogged with dust too.

How much AS5 should I apply to the core and how should I spread it?

I had the same problem when I was using the stock cooler. I would hit 76C under full load and that's with 100% fan.

I would seriously buy an aftermarket cooler if I were you. All these come with fan, VRM, RAM sinks, and of course, the heatsink itself.

Duorb or Duorb from Newegg. Comes 12 RAMsinks and bunch of VRM sinks
Accelero Twin Turbo. comes with 8 RAMsinks and 4 VRM sinks. Enough to cover all your VRMs.
Scythe Musashi Comes with 12RAMsinks and bunch of VRMsinks like Duorb.

I got the Accelero and its working great
