Default 4870 1GB temp problem

Well i dont understand why the temps shown in GPU-Z are so far from each other.

Dispio - 41.5c
Memio - 57c
Shadercore - 48c

Are they all located in the same place?

Well they aren't located in the same place, that's why there is a difference. I'm not sure about the Dispio, but the Shadercore is probably the internal GPU and the Memio is positioned around the GPU in a circle.

And if they're cooled anything like my Nvidia card, then we can just say that the mem cooling just sucks.
My 4870 runs hot as hell if I dont crank the fan speed up to ~45%. Anything higher than that can be somewhat intolerable as I've got the side off of my case.
Its amazing how much quieter my folding rig is compared to my sig rig.

Yeah, the stock cooler is kind of poor. But they, that's what aftermarket cooling is for

And these things can take a lot of heat too.

What I dont get is why GPU manufacturers leave the fan speed so low. If I leave my 4870 at stock fan speed itll hit 75*C fast. Same with my GSOs'. Now I can understand for noise leaving the 4870 turned down, but at 30% fan it would stay ~48*C and you cant even hear it.
My GSOs' are almost inaudible even @ 50%. Ive got 1 running right now @ 75% right next to me and it is not at all unpleasant. It's actually pretty quiet and its folding away @ 100% @ a somewhat cool 59/60*C.

This is not the stock cooler. Its the one i have in my sig which seems a bit high but the funny thing is that load temps are not as high.
