Default Removing HD4850 Cooler

How do I go about doing this?

Do I also remove the backplate screws along with the other surrounding ones?

Help greatly appreciated...

Or if you can just link me to a guide...

thanks!

Flip the card over and take out all of the screws. You might have to use some force to break the TIM free when you go to take the cooler off.

And to quote you on that, It was very hard getting one of those heat sinks off. Cant remember which one, but i thought i as gonna break the board i had to put so much pressure on it. So yea just be careful when you do it. I used a turning motion instead of just trying to pull it straight off. Also as he said i believe it is every screw you have to take out, nothing else is held in with screws except the heat sink if i remember correctly.

Awesome. I got it off!

Now then... there's this thin plastic sheet on it, do I want to remove that? (not the thermal pads)

You could try heating the underside of the core with a blow-dryer or something, it might make the TIM a little softer. Then try rotating the cooler.

EDIT: Nvm. The plastic thing is to reduce the risk of shorting out something on the card (I believe). Just keep it on there.

Yea those things are hard to get off lol. Glad you got it tho. Apply a nice layer of AS5 on there or something for your new heatsink. =)
