get a T-Rad2. I bought one, from Overclockers.co.uk for abou £25 I think, and I stuck 2 Scyth Kaze's on it (92mm) and they are 100% Silent

Btw, I think the 4870 layout is pretty much the same as the 4850 layout. If you buy one, make sure to buy a few little passive heatsinks for the Vrms.

I'm not sure about the T-Rad2.

I installed one for my friend's HD4870 1GB and it runs hotter than the stock cooler =\
It's got 2 x 92mm Zalman fans on it pulling air away from the cooler.

As for a good cooler, go with the HR-03 GT with a 92mm fan. Works wonders!

It should be pushing air through it.

Well then it must be installed wrong

nothing, i repeat NOTHING can be worst than a gpu's stock cooler

Arctic Cooling Accelero S2 R2 passive cooling and really drops the temps. You can also put a silent 120mm on it's quite as hell. Dropped my temps on my 8600 gt by 10 from stock cooler with a fan. Should work the same for your card.
