Default 4870 + HR-03 GT questions

So, I'm thinking about upgrading the cooling on my Radeon 4870. The on I'm looking at right now is the HR-03 GT. This is generally considered one of the best coolers for my card, right? (if not, what's even better :P)

Also, does the HR-03 GT fit on the 4870 while using the base plate from the stock cooler?

here's a picture of what I'm talking about The part still mounted on the card

Lastly, how does the HR-03 GT fare while running passively?

Thanks

your 4870 will produce too much heat for passive, and they leave that plastic part on because people just put a D-tek WC block on it with the fan still on

Plastic part? The part that's still on is metal

Keeping the plate works with certain air coolers

I'm curious of this question too. From what I've read the Scythe one on Newegg and the Accelero Twin Turbo and Accelero S1 Rev. 2 is good.

I currently run the HR-03 GT on my HD3870. It lowers temps by at least 20C, so it should be good for your HD4870.

Add a 92mm to it (I currently have a Noctua NF-B9 on it and it's very very quiet).
