Default Replacing the fan on Sapphire HD 4870 1GB

Hi guys

I have one of these in my rig : http://www.sapphiretech.com/presenta...000101&pid=179

It runs pretty loud at full load, so I was thinking of replacing the stock cooling solution - but on closer examination I realised that it was running these already (with the black case over the top): http://www.zalman.co.kr/ENG/product/...ad.asp?idx=283

However, I don't think that they (Sapphire) use the same Zalman fans. Does anyone know if I can get some quiet fans that would fit? Even better, has anyone taken apart this video card already to see what the included fan is (and why its so damned loud)?

If I can't find out any info about this I might just give up and replace the whole thing

if you want to replace the fan id take off the shroud and you may be able to mount a couple 120 or 92 mm fans

Take another look at your card. That heatsink is definitely not a Zalman design. I've both the 4870 1GB and that zalman heatsink myself and they're not the same.

Oh. I was under the impression that its the same. In any case, now that I've examined it closely, it does seem to be lower profile than the Zalman design.

Does anyone know where I can get the Zalman fan then? I'd love to replace that stock fan with something less noisy and see if that works first before splurging on a full aftermarket solution.

Could you measure diameter of the fan on your Zalman please?

Nevermind - the Zalman fan is 80mm, frameless.

Will have to see if I can order one to replace the fan on my card.
