Default 4870 temps

Mine is currently as of right now running at roughly 63 degrees celsius.
Is this normal? There is a fan in front of where the card is that I could turn up a little higher to help cool it.

Guess I should try adjusting the speed on my fan(s) then.

Actually my Gainward 4870 GS goes 50ēc idle@45% fan, and full 67ēc (gpu-z shows 67ēc gpu, mem 71ēc and shaders 72ēc) with 65% fan. Increasing fan to 80%, temps falls to 59ēc

great stock cooler hehe

Don't feel bad, I got a new Asus 4870 512mb that ran great until the fan stopped working. If I were smart, I would of just gotten the Skythe Samarai cooler but like a dip that I was, I rma'd the thing, (took 29 days , Asus loses credit for a very game-short month). The new vga 4870 from Asus has a fan that works, just not very well.
I can play a game and the vga core runs at 59c with the fan up at a loud 70%. My side panel fan, on or off doesn't matter, the vga card overheats. The core can maintain 59c but the memory chips hit 100c and my gaming locks up, GPUZ confirmed. I need heatsinks on the memory chips. Asus will never win my buisness back. The replacement vga was worse than the original, so don't feel bad.

Time to go back to Nvidia, runs cooler , always.

No, I don't think they should be quite that high. These cards run hot on the reference cooling, but I don't recall mine idling at those temperatures...

Try increasing your fan speed to 40% or more, and see if that helps at all.
