here we go. might be difficult for a musashi with stock slim 100mm fans. but i got a noctua p12 and a akasa 92mm on mine

and i placed some ram sinks on the back of the card to help cooling too.

i tried furmark, and the temp was freakn high on the mem units, much higher than in anything i've even seen before. and i will never touch that destructive thing again.

Heres my results with the AC off/overclocked 4890

1: Is it ok to run my card this hot?
2: I have an XFX card...instead of the stock plate making contact with the VRMS there is a little heatsink there, maybe 1 CM tall/wide that covers the VRMS, ***?

Be back in 20 min, trying Sapphire plate.

hmmm, the core seems to be cool enough. but the mem units are kinda hot to me.

i dont know whats the temp on them when the stock cooler is on them. so they might have been designed to run hot.

Okay, what the hell do I do now?

This is with the stock plate that makes contact with the VRMs.

Card at 925/1050

1. make sure there is some open space below the fans. any obstacle with weaken the intake airflow. my core was running at 70+c before i moved the card to the top slot.

2. replace the stock fans on the cooler. better fans will not only drop the temp further, but also the noise too.

3. stick some heat sinks on the back of the card like i did. the airflow above the card ( from the cpu cooler in my case ) will take the heat away. just watch out the locations you place them!! dont short any resistance.

Your better off showing us actual load temps. We all know you cannot achieve those temps with the musashi on load.

Have you ever used Furmark before?

With the current state of vga air cooling and Furmark it is almost impossible to achieve sub 60C temps for the GPU and VRMs therefore it will not be stable and will artifact resulting in probable damage to your card.

I have not read any actual reports of cards failing due to Furmark but you can be the first to try and let us know!
Yeah, I used it to stress my OC. Core never got above 70C at 50% fan. Which temp is the VRM's?

Does anyone know what the max rated temps for the 4890 are?

This is pissing me off. I'm sorry but I can't stand this VRM BS with ATI

I'm seriously considering a GTX 260 or a 275 right now.

I have a Zalman VRM cooler I bought for 5$ but it won't fit properly and i even tried bending my heatsink's fins, but my heatsink won't touch the die properly with the zalman there.

I get 100c + after 5 minutes of ati-tool with the stock plate.

Its not a fan problem, my fans are working fine and keeping my GPU core at 58c full load overclocked

LoL, I did the same thing too! Since Scythe included so many RAM sinks, I thought, might as well use them. I started sticking those bastards anywhere and everywhere I felt the card was warm/hot.

That doesn't make sense, how are you using a Zalman VRM cooler AND the stock plate at the same time? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought you were using a Scythe Musashi like the rest of us; how come GPU-Z still shows your fan speed (RPM)?

With everything installed correctly VRM temps should be the around the range of my posted temps and bluepiglet's

Well my card died.

Probably from VRM abuse.

It just black screened and now it won't show signal, while my 8800 GTS works..

Rma time!
