That sentence should be brought out back and shot
You figure out the problem?

Yeah, remove the Scythe RAM sinks and install the stock headsink (see 5th pic on the right in my previous post). VRM temps are back to normal.
The Scythe benefits from a higher CFM fan. I high recommend replacing the stock 100mm slim fans with standard Scythe 100mm case fans. Double the CFM, same dBA.

I've never had my 4890's go over the mid 60's even overclocked under load. Thats without even modifying the fan profiles.
__________________I was considering aftermarket cooling as well but ATI has obviously improved the stock cooling quite a bit over the 4870's.

Quote:
With the Scythe Musashi it idles @ ~38C (depends on room temperature) and never goes above 62C on load using scan for artifacts for 3mins. Fan speed on the stock 100mm slim fans are on MAX (doesn't make any noise because the fans push so little air).

Scan for artifacts in ATI Tool 0.27 will work just fine. People here say to avoid Furmark at all costs because it may damage your card and no game can push the GPU and the VRMs to such extremes (yes that includes Crysis).

Just buy another PSU instead of waiting. When you get your PSU back from RMA, sell it. That's what I would do.

just wondering
1. what did you use to take the red plate off the stock heatsink? 2. what are your memory and VRM temps with the red plate? even though my PSU is dead i was messing around and tried installing the zalman cooler, and the damn push pins won't go through it
