I had my side fan set up in exahust, and hit 100c in a OCCT test. Switched the fan to intake, which blows right on it now and it almost never goes above 90 now!

![]() I'm almost certain that the temps are that way because it is SOOO hot in my house. Like 85F usually. It's sitting RIGHT in front of my AC now (sucking in air ~60F) and it's at about 90C load.

have you tried running your comp with the case open? sometimes that can help to lower GPU memory temps when all else fails, just by increasing airflow. If you get really desperate, when ambient air temps are very very high I've pretty much stuck a house fan (one of those 2-3 foot square ones) pointing towards the side of my open case... system temperatures went down across the board

I would definitely point my finger at dust in the heatsink. I had a single-slot Asus Hd4850 and it was always a struggle to keep temperatures down. Now that I have a 4890 with a dual slot reference cooler it's way easier to control temps.

After cleaning and fresh application of AS5, temps went from 100C at 100% fan speed to 65C
Quite pleased.

most definitely. the stock paste is horrible, and dust does seem to be a problem on single slots

I used to get those temps with my vanilla 4850, I like my 37C idle temps and 46C load temps with my S1

Do this:
Remove heat sink Disassemble the heat sink so you can see the fins and stuff (if you can) Use an entire can of air and really blow it out good Use good TIM (Arctic Silver 5, OCZ Freeze, or IC7) Replace heat sink back on the card Cross fingers. Or do this: Save up 50-60 bucks and get a Musashi. Freaking awesome cooler. When I had my 4770 OC to 915/1000 (flashed to Asus TOP bios and stock was 750/800) with the stock cooler running 100%, I hit 94C load and climbing. When I put the Musashi on there and w/ IC7 I was hitting 55C and stable (even after an hour of furmark set my max screen res and max MSAA + Post processing). Even with the fans turned down low I was hitting 60C. Idle at max was 28C and with fans on low it was 30C.
