With my motherboard - there is a 2 PCI slot gap between cards - and there is no card between them

Yes that is true, but also the fan on the top card is sucking the hot air between card 1 and 2.

The air in between the 2 cards are the "trapped" air that we are talking about. That trapped air is ususally hotter than the air in your case because the heat that was produced from the back of the 2nd card.

Sorry OP - i have sort of hijacked this thread....



I have a fan there - and none of my PCI slots are blanked.....so there isnt much if at all any heat "trapped" there

Sure there is. It's a generally small spot with low airflow, and the PCB of the bottom card heats up and the air in between is relatively warm. The top card uses that warm air as intake and the result is warmer temps.

edit: about the fan, it cant remove heat when the entire length of the PCB is heating up the air. It can only do so much. And since there are 3 hard drives are in front of the fan, the fan is pushing out warm air as well. Try moving the hard drives down and see if the temps lower.

thats ok scottath


i was thinking of putting a 120mm fan at the end of the cards (where the power connectors are) that blow onto them (i have an antec 1200 case and have that internal fan holder that came with the case)
would this help in pushing the air out of the case at all, decreasing temps?
