Well if you're not WCing them, they're sitting right on top of eachother... fighting for air and the top card gets some of the bottom's heat... So yeah, they're going to be hotter.

Funny - my setup is the opposite....
My 1gb 4870 uses less power and is cooler than my 512mb card.....and the 1gb is on top According to GPU-Z @ folding load: 1gb = 49a - ~71c 512 = 51a - ~74c

your using 4870's, the fan blos down. card 1 is blowing hot air all over card 2, its nasty! with single slot cards like the 4850, the fan blows up. My setup is like yours, top card runs coolest, bottom card runs hottest.

Yep - same cooler - the stock reference one....
ItsTopher - what do you mean blows the heat at the other card? it sucks in from the fan and puts all the heat out the back of the case - unless you mean heat coming from the vregs....?

My Top cards runs 5C hotter idle and same under load. When in CF my 4870 gets from 70C to 75C under load.

Sorry, I explained that pretty bad...the top card is intaking air from the very small space between card 1 and 2, almost suffocating card 2, making it noticable hotter. At least thats how I would explain it after watching my setup.
