Default (HELP) XFX 4890 stock cooler issue

Hello

I have a Ati radeon 4890 XFX card and trying to install the Twin turbo cooler instead of the stock one. (it makes alot of noise imo)

anyways I have read in here that keeping the original "plate" for the VRM cooling is the best thing to do, and then put the twin turbo on instead of only the original fan.

My cards plate is removeable but the GPU cooling is stuck to the plate, it doesn't look like the pictures posted in other threads in here?

any help?

Can you not push the mounting pins out?
There may be other options.

hi. I have tried pushing as hard as i dare...without breaking warrenty and the card.

They seem stuck and the mounted cooling parts seen up top wont budge either...as you can see there are no screws holding it or anything like that.

How does it work on the saphire 4890 model? Is it easy to undo and use the plate?

I am considering turning in this xfx for a saphire model instead....if I can't get the plate off its worthless....if I want another cooler than the stock that is.

IDK, I had a HIS and Sapphire version and never bothered checking.
I would assume all reference coolers are the same, guess not.

Try running it and test the temps, might be good.

It's easy, all you need is a nice small screwdriver to remove a few screws to separate the plate from the fan shroud.

That XFX isn't using a reference 4890 cooler, it looks like a cheapo cut-down version of the reference design.

The shroud is removed.

He wants to separate the sink from the plate.

From the looks of it that is a custom cooler that XFX is now using, I have a 4890 and the cooler looks nothing like that.

Hm, yeah, I guess I should have mentioned that the GPU heatsink for a reference cooler is a separate part that's just kind of sitting between the shroud and the plate, so once you take the plate off the GPU cooler part isn't attached to anything. That might be important info...

Whereas it seems with the XFX cooler the plate and GPU cooler are one piece.
