I was just overclocking my HD4770 and it seems my RAM modules are overheating. My computer's screen froze while I was watching a movie and running Folding@Home at the same time. I know my overclock is 100% stable (830/1000), but my computer still crashed which points to my RAM modules overheating (screen froze, no BSOD or anything, the movie actually kept on playing, lol!). The core temperature of the GPU was at around 66ºC which I do believe is a normal load temperature. This is a bit higher than what I normally get because today is relatively hotter than usual (ambient has got to be around 32ºC compared to 20ºC).
This is the version of my HD4770: ![]() I was looking around for some RAM modules heatsinks, but I don't think they would fit. Does anyone have any ideas to how I could cool them? I don't want to spend too much, maybe U$25 shipped maximum. I do live in Brazil so availability might be an issue. Thank you!

You could try to find a full replacement cooler and some memsinks but IIRC the mounting holes are a lil off compared to what most companies have been used to. I think x1650 comptible coolers will fit however.
You could try these, but they still might be a lil too tall. Got a dremel to cut the memsinks down a lil? edit: 5K post, again. Woohoo!

Haha! Yes, I do have a Dremel. The RAM modules are like 1cm off the heatsink, do you think I could fit those in there? I didn't want to go with a full cover because that just might kill my budget.

For the price of ramsinks you might as well get a new cooler, plus there is no way you're going to find any that fit.
__________________If you can find an Accelero L2 Pro, it fits the 4770. MSRP is $16, but you're going to have issues finding one in Brazil. The only one I've seen is here: http://cgi.ebay.com/Arctic-Cooling-A...d=p3286.c0.m14 Maybe contact the seller and try and work something out?

does the 4770 not have shader/memio sensors? what were your other temperatures?

I was only using the RivaTuner temperature sensor which only shows core.
After roughly 2 minutes of F@H operation the RAM modules heated to 71.5ºC according to the GPU sensor.

Use GPU-Z 0.3.4 and see what sensors it gives you.

What makes you think it's the ram modules overheating? I personally think the problem is elsewhere. Do you ever get artifacts while doing games or something else? Because that would point to your GPU memory modules.

Edited in, 71.5ºC (on the memory sensor) after not even 2 minutes on F@H.

I'm not certain but I think the Zalman VF900 would be compatible aswell. Can you find one of those you can get?
